History/Background: Wikipedia.
Personality:

Kazuma is wild in every sense of the word; the type of person who has no respect for authority and lives by his own rules, forgoing all worries about the past and future and prioritizing survival above almost everything else. Having been on his own since he was very young, he has developed a strong sense of self-preservation, which in turn has shaped him to be somewhat unpleasant and even intimidating. He’s unpredictable, from what comes out of his mouth to what whim he decides to follow for his own professed self-interest, and because of this he usually elicits a strong reaction or sense of judgment from others. He’s an impulsive and reactive individual, easy and quick to anger and even quicker to lash out. Being the outspoken sort, he voices what he’s thinking without much (or any) filter, which makes him come off as mocking and even harsh. He’s forthright and honest in his capricious nature, quick to believe that someone wants to fight when they argue with him and posturing against any perceived insults thrown his way. Though he may come off as a despicable good-for-nothing, anyone who knows Kazuma recognizes that he is a good, honest person who looks out for those who cannot do it for themselves.

As someone who had no choice but to look out for himself in an unforgiving world, Kazuma is used to acting on his own and having to rely only on himself. His aggression and readiness for violence is his way of forcing others to either establish themselves as threats or otherwise. Kazuma is very much ruled by his pride, which sparks an almost foolish defiance to not back down from any kind of confrontation, even when it would be wisest to do so. He is cocky and arrogant about his strength, having no qualms showing off and facing anything he sees as a challenge with unwavering combativeness. Though combat is something that cannot be avoided in his line of work and lifestyle, Kazuma doesn't seem too resentful about having to fight. In fact, he enjoys it and would make good sport of the activity if it wasn't always a matter of life or death. He hardly ever begrudges his opponents, knowing that in the sort of world they live in, fighting each other is never as personal as it is just necessary. If conflict and disputes have been settled, Kazuma has shown a capacity for being able to move on and even be sociable and friendly with someone who he once saw as his enemy. However, he has also proven that he's capable of holding a grudge when he feels as though his pride has been deliberately tarnished by someone.

If there’s one thing Kazuma cannot stand, it is being looked down or verbally belittled. Kazuma strives to be free to do as he chooses, even if it means barely getting by on the little money he collects. He believes that no one has the right or even the ability to dictate or influence how he should live his life, and anyone who tries to entice him with promises of helping him work towards a better life is just being condescending. With this sort of attitude, he seems not to hold much respect for people who are preoccupied with trying to live comfortably at the expense of their individuality. Surviving is important and a plight he can both understand and relate to, but he finds that one can survive while still preserving their sense of dignity. Kazuma values being different and is proud to be an Alter User while others are unhappy being feared by society. He believes that his Alter is all he has to make something of himself since without it he'd just be like any other ordinary person. Having the Alter had given Kazuma the potential to rely on his own strength, so it is something he treasures.

His experiences have forced him to grow up faster than most people, but Kazuma is still barely out of his adolescence. In fact, many would describe him as immature despite how hard he tries to present himself as a capable adult. Kazuma gives into his feelings pretty easily, and when he does he is unashamed about it. Whether it's anger or sadness, Kazuma will express himself without considering how his reactions may affect others. He cries when he's frustrated or grieving and encourages others to do so when he notices that they're holding back. Kazuma presents himself as an open book, so when he's not suspicious of someone or pissed off, he can be quite amicable and indulgent of others. He likes to tease others when opportunity shows itself and often shares rapport with people who can keep up with his jabs. The very traits that make him difficult to initially get along with are traits that cement his loyalty to an individual – his unapologetic openness makes for good-natured rough-housing and parrying and he’s not afraid to show that he’s taken a liking to someone or is having fun with them – or having fun at their expense. He can be a friendly person once enough trust is established, showing himself as accepting and easy-going, as a part of his casual ability to move past conflict.

Being rough around the edges, many wouldn't expect Kazuma to have much empathy or even patience, but he seems to have a soft spot for the innocent, namely animals and children. In the series, Kazuma has formed his own small familial unit, and has a protective streak around uninvolved civilians. This noble trait comes from his dislike of authority taking advantage of the weak and vulnerable, which is a position he strongly protects himself from ever being in as well. Kazuma has a strong and even sacrificial need to protect people from being oppressed or exploited. This need to protect, paired with his unabashed confidence in his abilities, makes for a benevolent if reckless individual.

Beneath his own self-assuredness and arrogance, Kazuma is burdened with self-loathing and self-doubt like any other person. While Kazuma can be open about the emotional process of release – such as crying out of sorrow or frustration – he is protective of his own weaknesses and does not want others to be privy to his vulnerabilities. Kazuma places absolute importance on the safety of his loved ones, and the thought of being helpless to protect them can easily trigger Kazuma into instability or insecurity. Throughout his life he's had to suffer through hardships and loss, but having to carry the weight of the lives of others on his back is more distressing than having to just take care of himself. For Kazuma, to bring meaning to his life and all of the suffering he's gone through, is to die with having accomplished anything significant. Towards the end of the series, he does so by bringing it on himself to protect his home, the Lost Ground, even if it means never having a moment of rest or peace. The implication of the ending is that he goes on fighting for the rest of his life, just as he had growing up.
Carrier: A rooster.
Magic Weapon: Kazuma will have a skeletal shaped hand brace (one that reaches further down his wrist) that doubles as brass knuckles. Having belonged to a warrior who sold his soul to a demon, this weapon has been enchanted (or cursed) with a demonic spirit's right hand. Once the weapon imprints on a user, it grants that user the ability to summon and control the demonic hand. The summoned hand is five times larger than a normal person's and about twenty times more powerful. It appears as a ghostly entity that hovers over the user's hand, syncing with their movements. If the user makes a fist, the entity will make a fist, for example.

Summoning the entity takes a great deal of mana and will leave the user exhausted afterwards. It is intended to be a last resort defence or attack, but can be used to scale flat walls (the hand has claws that can easily break through rock) or move heavy objects that a normal person wouldn't be able to lift on their own.

The weapon's name is simply 右手 (Migite).
